On a really tight budget? The company 1-on-1-Resumes.com offers a compelling price and the
same low price regardless of your level of experience. And they guarantee you'll land an interview
within 30 days, or they will re-write your resume at no additional charge. So, should you buy? In a word, no.
Jump to What We Didn't Like.
So why the AVOID rating? Well, beyond the writing quality, which is sub par, customer service appears non
existent. That, and the Better Business Bureau has concluded that the company deserves nothing better than an "F"
rating. We detail this below.
The Step-By-Step:
On the home page, you'll see a link marked "Click Here To Have Us Write Your Resume!" Click it, and
follow the instructions. You'll be asked to forward an existing resume (if you have one), and/or provide your
relevant career information via their online form. You'll be given the opportunity to add additional services to
your order, like cover letters, follow-up letters, etc.
Complete your order and make payment. Don't expect a telephone interview with your assigned writer. At these
prices, that's not in the cards. But you are given a means to communicate directly with your writer, should the
need arise.
You'll see your finished resume in 2-3 business days via email in Microsoft Word format. Contact your writer if
you need to make any changes or corrections. Now, put your resume to work: you've got 30 days to line up at least
one job interview, or the company will re-write your resume at no charge.
Here's what we liked:
-
Pricing is easy on the wallet. And at $89.95, it's one price fits all.
- They can turn your resume around in 2-3 business days, even faster for an extra fee.
- Hard copies (yes, printed on actual paper) are available.
- An interview is guaranteed within 30 days, or they'll re-work and re-write your resume.
- In business since 1999. Longevity counts for something.
Here's what we didn't like:
- No indication that the writers are certified. We must assume they are not.
- Resume samples have problems. They indicate a lesser quality of workmanship than we believe is
necessary in today's job marketplace.
- Customer service? We're still looking for customer service. After multiple emails and phone calls to
the company, we've yet to connect with a human. Not a good sign.
- Finally, the Better Business Bureau. Having previously given the company an "A" rating,
they dropped that to an "F" and revoked BBB accreditation from the company for failure to comply with
agreed BBB standards (evidently something to do with use of the BBB logo without permission). Update: The
company is back up to a C- as of April 2013.
To summarize:Yes, the lure of a professional resume for less than ninety
bucks is tempting. Resist the temptation. Writing quality does not impress, and customer service is asleep at the
switch. Plus, it's never a good sign when the BBB has revoked a company's accreditation, which it has in this
case.
If you've got a few more bucks to spare, consider the $149 resume over at ResumeCorner.com. It's a significant leap ahead in writing quality, and all the writers are
certified. Better still, the $199.95 resume over at ResumesWriters.com, a company
with top-notch certified writers and very attentive customer service -- and our highest rating. Read our in-depth
reviews of this company, HERE.
